Review: UFC Undisputed 2010 (Xbox 360)

Review: UFC Undisputed 2010 (Xbox 360)

A bead of sweat rolls down my forehead as my character lurches and swings a roving left hook. Like me, he too is sweating, only in a much more manly way as he blocks a vicious head kick. I hammer the pad, holding LB in the hope that I can land a knockout punch.

My over enthusiastic punch gets blocked and he throws a cruel uppercut catching me on the chin and sending my character reeling as the screen darkens and time slows, this could be the end.

He sees the opportunity and steps in to land a series of punches. I hammer the RB button down hard to block the shower of fists. Somehow my character pulls through and regains his composure. That was close. Too close. I have to finish this.

I step forward, gently urging the left stick, hoping that his confidence will give me an opening. He eats it up and comes forward with a series of jabs that don’t connect. This is my chance. Holding LT I press X, Y and X, landing a chorus of satisfying thumps to his ribcage. He understandably drops his guard down low, leaving his face, and particularly that cut left eye open.

This is what I’ve been waiting for. I press RB and X and with liquid precision my ugly created-character steps forward, drops low, and swings a huge over hand right that connects with the cut eye. Blood and sweat spray from the impact as he drops with a sickening thud to the blood-stained floor. I jump in the air and shout some idiotic phrases of the self congratulatory fashion as my character does the same.

EA Signs Fedor Emelianenko For Upcoming MMA Game!!

EA Signs Fedor Emelianenko For Upcoming MMA Game!!

A few weeks ago when UFC head honcho Dana White threatened to blacklist any fighter signing up for EA’s MMA game, he was hoping that they would all listen.

Well, I guess they listened but probably didn’t take much notice!!

On Wednesday, EA revealed the names of the first three fighters signed on to take part in its upcoming MMA video game: Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Gegard Mousasi, current WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, widely considered to be the top heavyweight fighter in the world. A deal fell through this week to lure Emelianenko to the UFC, although White insists talks are still ongoing. There is no word whether the deal with EA will affect this.

More info on the game can be found here: http://mma.easports.com

UPDATE: Former PRIDE and current Strikeforce announcer Mauro Ranallo will lend his voice to the upcoming video game, as the play-by-play announcer. It is unknown who will join him on commentary.

UPDATE 2: MMATorch.com has news that other notable fighters to appear in the game will be UFC heavyweight Randy Couture, Gegard Mousasi, Renato Sobral and the legendary Frank Shamrock.

Hands On: UFC 2009 Undisputed (Xbox 360)

Hands On: UFC 2009 Undisputed (Xbox 360)

It has been a while since I played a UFC videogame. That was way back on the Dreamcast and way before UFC was seen on TV here in the UK. Now you can’t escape UFC or another MMA promotion on late night TV.

The demo popped up on Xbox LIVE a few weeks ago and it really is like watching a UFC PPV!! The presention, with the announcing of the fighters and the on-screen graphics. Even the “tale of the tape” is here!! This all means nothing though if the actual gameplay is not there.

Thankfully, the game itself is kick ass. The controls work well with everything from punching and kicking to ground and submission is easily at your fingers. I was afraid the developers might mike it over complicated but thankfully this is pick up and play. Or should that be punch??!!

UFC 2009 Undisputed is available to preorder from ShopTo.net and includes a free UFC DVD (while stocks last).
