Review: Leave Home (Xbox 360)

Review: Leave Home (Xbox 360)

I’m a big fan of nostalgia, so when Hermit Games hit you with the shrilled beauty of the Spectrum loading screen before starting Leave Home, you get a feeling that this could well be a lot more than expected.

Like, I’d suspect, most of you out there, I hadn’t even heard of this game. Only through reviewing this do I know it exists and thank the Gods of vectors and pixels that I got to have a look at this because it’s quite easily one of the best indie titles out there (yeah, I know that kind of stuffs the rest of the review, but I can at least give you multiple reasons as to why it’s so good now).

First off is the really quirky blend of 8-bit remembrance and neon induced funkiness that culminates into one of the smallest files on the Xbox roster. When you first look at the download screen you will think to yourself that you’re not going to get a lot for 5 MB of data. All I can say to that is the old phrase “Sometimes the best things come in small packages.”

Review: Creed Arena (Xbox 360)

Review: Creed Arena (Xbox 360)

Creed Arena is an indie game that tries to be a retail game, and actually does a good job of it. The game may not look polished in certain places, and suffer from a number of small errors, but it does manage to capture what multiplayer gaming is all about.

It has that old-school feel that reminds me of my early days on Goldeneye and Red Faction. Sure, the genre has come on leaps and bounds since then but the core mechanics are the same. Capturing the fundamentals of good multiplayer gaming is something that even the high financed games have often failed to do. You want something that is easy to pick-up and fun enough to make you play more.

Review: Chime (Xbox 360)

Review: Chime (Xbox 360)

Chime seems rather unremarkable at first glance. It just looks like a typical Lumines clone which is true to an extent. Under its surface though it’s actually terrific fun and even better it’s all in aid of a great cause.

Much of Chime’s publicity is down to the fact that it’s OneBigGame’s first title. OneBigGame is a games industry charity initiative which offers all proceeds, from the sale of its games, to charity. It’s a fantastic cause and considering Chime is a bargain 400 points with 60% of its proceeds going to the charity fund, this is reason alone as to why you should get purchasing. There’s a bit more to it though and in exchange for the charitable donation, players get a fun Lumines-esque game.
