Xbox 360 Pro Bundle To Be Discontinued!!

At the end of June Ars Technica hinted that the Xbox 360 Pro bundle would be phased out, with the Elite dropping down in price as it’s replacement. Well, after box art renders appeared on the NeoGAF forums, the boxes have been spotted in the wild. Kotaku have, thanks to a GameStop employee, posted a picture online of the new Xbox Arcade bundle box.

As you can see the new box only shows the Arcade and Elite with no mention of the Pro. As you may also notice it says “FREE” next to Xbox LIVE rather than “Silver Membership” on the older box. This probably doesn’t hint at LIVE becoming free but instead stops confusion for consumers over what Silver membership implies.

No details yet to the pricing of the Elite bundle but it should be announced soon by Microsoft.

EA Signs Fedor Emelianenko For Upcoming MMA Game!!

A few weeks ago when UFC head honcho Dana White threatened to blacklist any fighter signing up for EA’s MMA game, he was hoping that they would all listen.

Well, I guess they listened but probably didn’t take much notice!!

On Wednesday, EA revealed the names of the first three fighters signed on to take part in its upcoming MMA video game: Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Gegard Mousasi, current WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, widely considered to be the top heavyweight fighter in the world. A deal fell through this week to lure Emelianenko to the UFC, although White insists talks are still ongoing. There is no word whether the deal with EA will affect this.

UPDATE: Former PRIDE and current Strikeforce announcer Mauro Ranallo will lend his voice to the upcoming video game, as the play-by-play announcer. It is unknown who will join him on commentary.

UPDATE 2: MMATorch.com has news that other notable fighters to appear in the game will be UFC heavyweight Randy Couture, Gegard Mousasi, Renato Sobral and the legendary Frank Shamrock.

Hands On: Xbox LIVE Update Preview!!

This morning my 360 told me there was an update available, and sure enough I was picked as part of the preview program. Ok, I know the entry isn’t as strict as the NXE preview, but go me!!

Having a quick blast around the menus there is some noticeable increase in speed and stability. The graphical friends list still takes a while to populate though. I thought they were going to sort that out in this update, maybe it will be sorted once it is released proper.

So far a few things have grabbed my attention:

The achievement progress shows how many games you’ve maxed. It also shows the total possible gamerscore. Yep, it’s depressing!!

Another great addition is found via the guide button. When pressed during a game it now gives you easier access to the achievement list for that particular game.

I’ll probably find a few more things over the next couple of days. When I do I’ll update this post. And fear not those who haven’t signed up yet as there is still time!! Just head over here and sign up. Good luck!!

Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Footage Hits YouTube!!

Infinity Ward has posted multiplayer footage of Modern Warfare 2 on their YouTube channel. It not only gives us a glimpse of some of the multiplayer maps that’ll be available, but also one of the perks, the “AC130 killstreak reward”, which after 11 kills in a row gives you the chance to man the gun in a AC130 Gunship!!
