Review: MX vs. ATV Alive (Xbox 360)

Review: MX vs. ATV Alive (Xbox 360)

MX vs. ATV Alive is the latest in THQ’s off-road racing franchise and looks to mark the decline of decent off-road racing games. Off-road racing is a tough sport, gruelling and demanding, and this accurately describes the experience of playing Alive in every way.

Racing games as a rule never provide access to every track, vehicle and rider at the beginning of the game, but Alive’s first problem is the obvious grind involved. Experience points have safely made the transition from RPG’s to other genres and Alive is no exception. For the most part it wouldn’t be an issue, but since only two competitive tracks are available from the beginning and the next unlock is level ten, it’s clear after the first race that you could be grinding for a few hours on the same tracks before moving on.

Review: Section 8: Prejudice (Xbox 360)

Review: Section 8: Prejudice (Xbox 360)

Section 8: Prejudice is the sequel to TimeGate’s much underrated arcade style shooter, which received a full retail release and suffered from poor sales and a distinct loss of online interest. Their sequel intends to correct the issues with the single player campaign, adds a new mode and provides it at a budget price.

The story picks up eight days after Section 8 defeated the Arm of Orion, taking their renegade commander prisoner and they’re obviously feeling pretty good about themselves, even getting in time to train new recruits and the like; a nice way of putting new-comers through the control scheme. Their base comes under attack in the form of a jailbreak attempt and all those good deeds have gone to waste it would seem, as you now have to track down the escapee and find out who sprung him from his incarceration, leading to a not so original plot-line that’s just enough to justify you gunning your way through hundreds of A.I. enemies.
