Review: Rooms: The Main Building (DS)

Review: Rooms: The Main Building (DS)

Rooms: The Main Building is about as exciting as the name suggests. It’s a game full of sliding puzzles. You know those little puzzles you’ve mostly played on a Christmas day after one drops out of your cracker when all you really wanted was a bouncy ball? Yup, those puzzles. If you’ve spent any time playing said puzzles, you’ll realise that it’s quite good fun for five minutes then utterly repetitive afterwards. Rooms: The Main Building epitomises this perfectly.

There is a semblance of a story going on here. You are Mr X and you’ve been transported to a strange mansion. Your mission is to figure out what’s going on and solve over 100 sliding puzzles along the way. There’s no real need for the story admittedly as you’ll find yourself forgetting about it all too quickly.

Review: Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force: Herbert’s Revenge (DS)

Review: Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force: Herbert’s Revenge (DS)

Deep breath time…Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force: Herbert’s Revenge. It’s a bit of a mouthful isn’t it? Presumably somewhere there are parents muttering “is it that new penguin game?” – yes you’d be right, that’s exactly what it is. Club Penguin is big business it seems as a form of MMO for kids. It’s passed me by as I’m not under 12. So, having been assigned this game to review I consulted my resident expert: my 10 year old cousin. Turns out she doesn’t know anything about it either. She liked the game quite a bit though and I can see why.

Review: Hidden Mysteries: Titanic (DS)

Review: Hidden Mysteries: Titanic (DS)

Hidden Mysteries: Titanic isn’t overly interesting, so I’m going to start my review in a similarly, not overly interesting, but perfectly functional sort of way. Just to get you in the mood so you know exactly what to expect from it. Big Fish Games isn’t quite a household name, but I’d wager it’s a company whose products have been in a great many homes. They primarily publish hidden object games for the PC; games that require players to pick out a variety of objects as determined by the game. They’re simple titles to say the least but they’re also quite relaxing, simple to get into and thus ideal for casual gamers. A spattering of similar titles has made their way to the DS. So we come to Hidden Mysteries: Titanic which as I’ve previously said, really isn’t very interesting.

Review: Maestro! Green Groove (DSi)

Review: Maestro! Green Groove (DSi)

Well who doesn’t like birds? No not the feminine kind, the cute little ones that fly. Well mix that with pink and fluffy, classical music and deadly notes and what do you get? Yes, you guessed it: Maestro! Green Groove, from French developer Neko Entertainment.

You are pulled in by the quirky music and an overwhelming purple background covering the screen and then given a short introduction on the storyline, showing us the cute pink birdy, his alter ego and their love interest Bella.

Review: Date Or Ditch (DSi)

Review: Date Or Ditch (DSi)

Ever wanted to date more than one guy/girl at the same time? Well look no further…introducing Date or Ditch, the game made to spruce up your dating techniques. Don’t worry if you’re not hot on your heels, you’ll have help with a guide button (Help! Need advice!, as if you’ll need it) and an in-game virtual dating virtuoso, on hand to give you tips and advice.

The game starts with an upbeat tune, which sounds like a cheesy game show, with a brightly coloured options screen. You are given a gender selection screen and you have the choice to keep the in-game name, or change it to a name of your choosing. The fun begins when you get to snap four pictures of yourself to set the scene of the dating game. These images will be used to represent your characters emotional response during the course of the game.
