Fun, exciting, thought provoking, enjoyable and must have buy are all words that DON’T apply to this game. I had good hopes after reading the synopsis about how it takes gamers back to the days of such classics as Streets of Rage and Final Fight, but it was not to be. The title screen is the only highlight of this game and to be honest I think that the developers were making an I-Phone APP rather than a game meant for home console use.
The characters although different in appearance are very basic in their moves, limited to punch, kick, grapple and a rather weedy jump that serves no purpose other than to perform the occasional jump kick which rarely connects. The animation is typical HD affair but instead of a varied enemy base, you have around 3 basic enemies to fight per level who are repeated and repeated so many times it should be easy to beat them up and get those achievement points that the game has decided to inform you that you MUST get. The achievements are substandard at best and trust me they are not easy to get. For example the 20 hit combo shouldn’t cause too many problems right? Wrong. You can barely get a 7 hit combo on the go against normal enemies and due to the games uncanny ability to not register a punch even if you hit the enemy square in the face, it makes it even more of a chore. In fact that’s what this game is…a bloody chore.
In order to review this game completely I endured all of the levels, trying frantically not to either tear out my eyeballs or throw my Xbox out of the window. I get the feeling a hell of a lot of other people felt the same, for when I tried to initiate a multiplayer game 4 nights in a row, there were no other players available. Now either this means people have bought this and played it once then left it where it belongs in deleted games hell, or the developers haven’t bothered making the multiplayer accessible because even they couldn’t stand the game. Honestly, I have never been so bored playing a game in my life. The people who thought it would be a good idea to let these amateurs release this should be sacked immediately and sent to the unemployment line. I mean honestly how hard is it to make a decent game these days? Even the story is just….God, I can’t bring myself to even think about it. Avoid this game as though your sanity depends on it (and it does if you play).
If you’re looking for a Warriors fix I recommend getting the movie, or the older game rather than this pile of complete tosh!
I’m going to go and dunk my head in a bucket of ice to try and stop the searing migraine now.
