Review: SingStar: Take That (PS3)

Review: SingStar: Take That (PS3)

For those of you unfamiliar with the SingStar series, imagine karaoke in your living room coming through your console. In the past, SingStar have released Motown versions, 80’s versions but now the attention has turned to the biggest boyband of all time.

With 25 tracks to choose from spanning their back catalogue and their newer releases this has almost everything that a Take That fan would wish for. Songs featured include: Greatest Day, Back For Good, Never Forget, A Million Love Songs and Relight My Fire among others. The game itself is essentially the same as its predecessors in the layout and format of the game.

Single player is essentially karaoke but only when it’s played multi-player does the game really stretch its own legs. Singing duets or singing against each other in competition brings the best from the game. It also helps when there’s someone else who’s as bad as singing as you are – it lets you go for it just that little bit extra!

This version of the game also incorporates the SingStore, where you can purchase additional tracks that aren’t just Take That songs.

While browsing through the online options, I came across quite possibly the crowning glory of the game. You can access videos which other singstar players have uploaded to the user community for other people to watch, and believe it or not, rate. I spent a good half hour looking through some of these videos and wondering if these people were serious! Believe me, it’s well worth a look!

For me, I don’t think that this game gives enough. I don’t see why the developers couldn’t add a feature or two especially related to Take That, maybe a career type mode where you’d sing through the songs in order of their release with a couple of cut-scenes thrown in to make it feel a little more special.

Overall, if you’re a fan of Take That’s music then you’ll like this game – the game is essentially the same as its predecessors and could really have done with a feature or two added in to make this release unique to Take That. A little effort goes a long way!
