Review: Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Review: Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

I wasn’t really a fan of first-person shooters until Medal of Honor was released on the Playstation. I think Duke Nukem 3D (now available on Live Arcade!!) was the only one to grab my attention prior to that. I got all multiplayer on MoH: Allied Assault when that was released. One time at a friends house I interrupted him playing a new WWII game called Call of Duty. Having a quick blast myself I found the game soooo much better than MoH online. Even offline I was mesmerized by the story and action unfolding.

Call of Duty 4 strays away from the WWII theme of earlier titles in the series and brings it up to date fighting international separatists. This game had me gripped from the start. Even the title sequence made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I don’t think any other game has had me fearing for my own safety while playing. Really. The missions are well designed which makes a change as most first-person shooters recently have been aimed towards LIVE with the single player game feeling tacked on.

Multiplayer seems to be where this game excels. It feels like LIVE was made for Call Of Duty 4. The various deathmatch options will keep you on your toes and the ranking system with the perks it brings will have you playing until the wee hours!!

I’ll say it now, this is the best first-person shooter I have every played!!

Oh, and before you ask, it took me a few attempts to make the jump!!
